There are better-maintained complexes with more professional staff in the area; this place isn't worth the cost, stress, & treatment you receive.
They offer incentives for positive reviews. The negative reviews are more accurate. I lived here for 3+ years & 1 star is generous. You'll feel like every time you turn around, they try to rob your money & peace.
The property is not well-maintained. There are roaches & flying termites constantly inside, & hornets outside, but they charge monthly for pest control. On weekends, trash piles up around the one & only dumpster, & stays there all weekend. The apartments are poorly insulated. I paid... +2x the energy costs compared to other places. Also, only 2 maintenance men for 7 buildings, so repairs take a long time.
The front office staff, Alex & Sacha are very unprofessional, mean, & dishonest. Do not expect clear communication, follow-through, or basic respect from them. They will gaslight, mock, & hang up on you. If you submit a maintenance request & a part needs to be ordered, you won't get an update, timeline, anything. If you ask for one, Alex & Sacha are rude & irritated. The office closes w/o notice during the day, making it difficult to get help when you need it. Every year you renew, rent increases by $300-$400. They simply do not seem to care about their residents.
In addition, towing practices are aggressive & appear predatory. They find any reason to tow your car & make more money off of you. Vehicles are towed under questionable circumstances, & the process lacks transparency. Explanations must be sought out bc they won't communicate with you after the fact & often don't align with what happened, making these "justifications" suspect. Parking makes this worse bc it's very limited. If you don’t find a spot, you’re out of luck. Residents can rent covered spots for $25/month, & many sit empty. For what they charge in rent + how limited the parking is, it's absurd.
Icing on the cake is that, after I moved out, they claimed I owed them $+1,100 in “damages" without proof of such “damage.” I anticipated this, given management's seemingly thieving & robbing behavior & took photos & videos before turning in my keys. The notice was also sent to the wrong address. By the time I received it, they sent me to collections, leaving me no fair opportunity to respond. Collections dropped the charges bc Essex couldn't legally justify them. They still haven't returned my deposit's remaining balance. Document & keep records of everything. Take photos when you move in & out. You'll need it & possibly a lawyer. This place is managed by people who act unethically.
