The Haven of Ann Arbor

After calling Haven of Ann Arbor home for the past 10 years (I moved here in 2016 when it was still Village Green of Ann Arbor), I felt it was only right to leave a review. Over the years, I’ve made incredible memories and met people I’ll never forget.
The only reason I’m leaving is because my girlfriend (now my fiancée) and I are expecting our first child and decided to combine our households. Since my lease expired before hers, it made more financial sense for me to move. Otherwise, I’d gladly... be renewing my lease.
The location is one of Haven’s greatest strengths. You’re only 7–8 minutes from downtown Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan while still enjoying a quiet community. Trinity Health, Washtenaw Community College, and Route 3 public transit are all just minutes away.
Another reason I’ve stayed so long is the staff. Jeff in maintenance has been here for years and is one of the friendliest people you’ll meet, and Kim is equally wonderful. They always stop to say hello and genuinely get to know residents. Every maintenance request I submitted was handled quickly and professionally, and knowing the people entering your home builds a level of trust.
I’ve lived in three different floor plans, eventually settling into the B1 loft for the past nine years.I appreciated how well the apartments were built. I never heard neighbors through the walls or anything.
The community is what truly makes Haven special. The office also does a great job bringing residents together with pool parties, food trucks, Kona Ice, grab-and-go breakfasts, and other community events.
I’ve seen complaints about the clubhouse renovation delays, but my experience has been different. The amenities were already great before renovations, and throughout the project the office consistently communicated updates and explained contractor and weather delays. That transparency mattered more to me than the delays themselves.
My only real complaint was the occasional stink bug. Living next to Matthaei Botanical Gardens and wooded trails comes with nature, but a little Home Defense spray and homemade peppermint oil around the windows solved the problem.
Leaving Haven is bittersweet. This wasn’t just an apartment it was my home for a decade. I rarely write reviews because people usually only leave them when something goes wrong. I rarely leave negative reviews, but prospective residents should be aware of my experience with communication and follow-through from the leasing office.

I submitted my application in April 2026 and primarily worked with Kelly. After more than a week with no updates, I started following up. On April 28, I was told everything looked good and I should expect approval emails within a couple days.

Instead, I spent the next several weeks repeatedly reaching out. I emailed on April 20, May 4, May... 13, and June 22, and left multiple voicemails on April 27, April 28, May 22 (three times), May 26, June 1, and June 5. Most of these were never answered.

When I did get someone on the phone, I was told Kelly was unavailable and would call me back in about 45 minutes. Those calls never happened.

On May 22, I was told there was a hold on my application and that I could dispute it. I was also told my application fee would be refunded if it couldn’t be resolved. I followed up multiple times after that and got no response.

The most frustrating part was an in-person visit on June 8. James, the leasing manager, apologized and said it was a “huge mistake” that shouldn’t have happened. He said he would talk to Kelly and also reach out to Courtney, the property manager, to address what happened and help prevent it in the future.

He also promised to: (1) look into temporary housing options (I was stuck at Airbnbs because of this), (2) process my application fee refund, and (3) follow up by the end of the day.

That follow-up never came.

The only time I got real communication was when I showed up in person. After that, it went back to silence.

On June 22, I sent another email referencing the June 8 conversation. Again, no reply.

My issue isn’t that there was a complication with my application. It’s the pattern of no responses, missed callbacks, and promises that were never followed through.

If this is how applicants are treated before signing a lease, I’d think carefully about what happens once you’re actually a resident. Read More

I have lived in 4 apartment communities before this one and this is definitely my favorite. Besides the great location with access to so many parks and the lovely pounds within the community, this has also been the most helpful maintenance team I have ever seen. Since I have lived here they have replaced my central air, furnace, dish washer, toilet, sink, and window blinds at no extra cost to me. If my patio flooded, they added an extender to the gutter and dug a trench for drain off. Now, you... might think oh that's bad they had to replace so many things. No, they were original and their life span was up. I have lived in communities where maintenance does not replace what needs fixing. I've had leaking roofs, dying furnaces, and horrible plumbing before and every time I called maintenance they came out eventually, looked at it, and left a note saying "it was "inspected" without actually doing anything. At the Haven they take action. If it needs fixing, it gets fixed. That in itself is at least 3 stars on its own.

The community itself has had many updates to the units, the club house, the pool, and the outside exterior of every apartment. Yet at the same time, long term residents are receiving rent increase of $30-$50 a year. This is the best I have seen in Ann Arbor. I've lived in places where the only change the community made in a year was repaint the laundry room and they didn't replace any of the broken dryers. Yet every year they increase rent by $100 or more with no improvements in value. Not true at the Haven. They value keeping you here. There focus is not just getting new enters to move in.

I applaud the Haven for being such good sports. If they were able to rate some of the residents that live here they would give them 1 star. Too many people in this community think it is okay to ditch a couch, mattress, or whatever junk they decide they don't want by the recycle bin by the road. Take what you don't want to Good Will or put it in the large dumper at the back of the community.

If your thinking of moving here, walk around the community. Visit the neighboring parks and compare the value of what your getting to other communities in Ann Arbor. You will see the great value this place has to over. Any 1 star review is a big red flag. We have been living in the Haven for six months we strongly do not recommend!
Poor infrastructure
Poor customer service
Outrageous fees for pets!!!
If you consider to adopt one in midterm lease be aware you would pay full fees in spite of the verbally promises !!!
Very old and dysfunctional washer and dryer
Please reconsider!

I have a renovated (R2) apartment on the second floor in the middle of the complex, away from the highway. Granite countertops, nice bathroom, painted in neutral colors throughout. Although I can hear some traffic, it is not disruptive in any way. I work from home and can easily leave the windows open while on calls. I think the renovations are very good for an apartment and the renovated pool/fitness area also make this place worth the rent. It does seem the office people are overwhelmed but... they do their best. As for maintenance, everything I requested upon move-in was addressed within the first week, including installation of a new window (which I did not think an apartment complex would do). Alex is very helpful in this regard. I don't like the $25 extra/month charge for the trash butler service but assume they force this into the rent rather than have dumpsters everywhere, which I can't say is a bad idea. If you like to walk/run/bike/kayak, the location can't be beat. Bottom line: if you are looking for a nice, quiet place to live that is not near downtown or undergraduates, this is the place.
