Highgrove at Big Bend

I have put in many maintenance requests for the same issue. We have had raccoons in our walls since the first month of moving in. Maintenance has closed our work orders without resolving the issue. 3-4 months later and the family of raccoons is still in the walls. Orkin says they are waiting on the leasing office and the leasing office says they approve of requests but there is no communication or follow ups from the leasing office.

I have lived at Highgrove at Big Bend for not even a full year, and in that short time I’ve watched the same pattern repeat over and over: serious maintenance issues are ignored, tickets are closed without work being done, and the office staff acts like residents are the problem for daring to complain.

In our 1st unit here, we reported a ceiling leak that was brushed off until it became impossible to ignore. The cabinets were so soaked they were completely waterlogged, brown streaks of water... were running down the walls, and more than half of our kitchen became unusable. And, we began having major mold issues in that unit, which were also reported and also went ignored. We ended up moving to a different unit in this same complex not because we wanted an upgrade, but because maintenance would not take the damage and mold seriously or fix it in a timely way.

In our current unit, the same thing is now happening with our AC. Last year our dryer was not venting properly and multiple maintenance tickets were simply marked ‘completed’ even though nothing was actually fixed. This year, I have now submitted FIVE separate tickets about the air conditioning. Every time, maintenance has closed the ticket and told the office ‘it’s working,’ even though little to no air is coming from several vents, the lines running up to our apartment are not insulated, and the outside unit is visibly leaking. Anyone who lives here knows that’s not ‘working,’ that’s neglect.

The red flags with management started before we even got the keys to this unit. While we were trying to move and change units, I emailed Gabrielle in the office multiple times with basic questions about our application and transfer. Those emails were ignored. No answers, no follow-through. That was my first glimpse of how little respect residents are given here. More recently, I contacted the property manager directly about the ongoing AC issues and was assured I would receive a follow-up call. That call never came either.
Residents are paying real money to live in these apartments. We should not have to beg, chase, and argue just to have basic, livable conditions or to get an honest update on our own maintenance tickets. my experience with severe leaks, mold, unusable living space, multiple closed-but-unfixed tickets, and openly unprofessional behavior from the office, I would not recommend Highgrove at Big Bend to anyone. We live in the older set of apartments, it definitely has its flaws but we love how quiet it and the view of the woods and the animals that we get to see. The porch is also a great size we enjoy sitting outside quite a bit.

Maintenance is always a quick response even for non emergency fixes. The neighborhood side is peaceful and secluded, it would be nice if the center was fenced in for a dog park for both complexes.

They will sell you anything and act like it’s rainbow and unicorns. Well the office isn’t there during the posted hours. You can never get anyone to answer the phone or return a call. Very frustrating. Found out a bunch of people have mold in their apartment like all over it and they don’t do anything. Try to tell you oh there’s not mold we will paint over it. Takes forever for maintenance to come if they even EVER SHOW UP!!! Then one guy called the head guy and the head guy says DONT FIX IT, ... it doesn’t need fixing. So tired of how they are completely useless. Dont rent here definitely not worth the money. Pool is old and shut down a lot in the summer and no outside bbq blah blah area, cause it is nasty and unusable. Dog park has dog poop everywhere. Not cleaned up.
