A Great Community Facing a Slippery Slope of Corporate Decision-Making

As a former resident, I found the on-site management team to be welcoming, professional, and genuinely committed to the community. Unfortunately, it often appeared that the people managing the property had limited authority to make the day-to-day decisions necessary to effectively serve the residents they knew best.

Instead, decisions seemed increasingly influenced by apparent liability concerns and the complaints of a small but vocal group of residents. This creates a slippery slope where the...
loudest voices receive the greatest consideration, often at the expense of the broader community.

What makes this particularly disappointing is that the community itself has tremendous potential. It is made up of residents from diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives who could contribute to a genuinely inclusive and welcoming environment. However, when a vocal minority is repeatedly elevated above the majority, division inevitably follows.

Even the many well-planned and engaging community events could not overcome that growing divide. Community-building efforts can only go so far when residents perceive that some voices matter more than others.

My criticism is not directed at the property staff, who appeared to be doing everything within their power to support residents while operating under significant limitations. Rather, it is directed at a corporate structure that seems unwilling to trust the judgment of the very people it hires to manage its communities. Hawthorne has capable people on-site; the challenge is that they do not appear empowered to fully utilize their experience and firsthand knowledge for the benefit of the community they serve.

Favorite Place to Live

After living here for 3 years, I can easily say that the Meridian has been our favorite place to live. We unfortunately are moving as our growing family needs more space (house/yard), but wish we could continue living here for much longer.

The office staff are very friendly and actually helpful, which surprisingly is hard to come by in most complexes these days. They go above and beyond, are quick to offer to help in any way they can and are always pleasant to interact with. The maintenance...
supervisor Dale is very quick to respond, any issue we had was addressed in a matter of a few hours and he is always polite, kind and professional.

The location is optimal, close to shopping, restaurants, north hills, downtown and much more. This was the first place I've lived where there was always more than enough parking and it's all close.

The pool is beautiful and never crowded. Dale gets it inspected and open at the beginning of April every year which is much earlier than anywhere else I've lived, and they keep it open through October, giving residents as much time as possible to enjoy it which we really appreciated.

Our unit is very comfortably sized and has nice features. We've only had an issue with sound from upstairs neighbors once which was addressed promptly and adequately by management. The common areas are always maintained and overall, the complex has a very peaceful feel.

We have come to love living here and have established relationships with many residents, a lot of whom have lived here even longer than us which I believe is a testament to the quality of life the Meridian supports.
Overall, we have nothing negative to say except that we are sad to leave but already have plans to return to visit our neighbors soon! would recommend the Meridian at Sutton Square to anyone that is looking for a safe, high quality, quiet and welcoming community to live in.
