Major Bug Issues
Be prepared to deal with serious bug and maintenance issues.
I dealt with persistent silverfish throughout my unit for almost a full year despite endless extermination treatments. At the same time there were numerous other maintenance issues including major drafts ($350+ regular electric bills and freezing cold) from poorly sealed doors and windows, inches of construction dust on ledges and behind appliances that made me physically sick, leaks under the sink, broken cabinets, cracked and... unfinished shower tile, large unsealed openings around pipes, persistent foul hallway odors, and strong odors from neighboring units leaking into my unit daily that smelled awful.
Because they leased me a unit that had so many issues- I was then forced to dedicate the next 9 months of my life to allowing their maintenance staff, exterminators, and other third party vendors into my apartment almost weekly as they attempted to fix the issues. This in addition to having to take the time to do all the correspondence with their office reporting the matters.
Despite 5 exterminations, revolving door of workers in and out, my own efforts, and endless back and fourth- giant silverfish bugs persisted inside my unit- in addition to the foul hallway smells and odors leaking into my apartment despite sealing everything.
At that point management said “there was nothing more they could do” and suggested that I transfer units.
They assured me the new unit that was in a different building had no prior pest issues and that all maintenance items would be addressed before my move. I bit the bullet and transferred despite the move itself being a ton of additional work.
Within a week in the new place, multiple giant silverfish popped up on my walls again in the new unit.
I literally cried as they are very startling especially when in your bedroom. Or popping up on your ceiling when you open your eyes in morning.
Despite the terrible 10 months I dealt with prior and even an entire move- the new place was not sufficiently sealed for bugs. It was shocking.
Living with the bugs, constant maintenance people and vendors inside my living space, and repeated back-and-forth with management significantly affected my quality of life. Overall the experience has been very bad.
