Not the Coliving Community I Originally Joined
In my opinion, The Village no longer functions as the coliving community that was advertised to me when I chose to move in. When I applied, resident meet-and-greets, community participation in welcoming new members, and the Community Coordinator role were presented as central parts of the living experience. Since then, those features have been eliminated, and many of the community-oriented structures that distinguished The Village from a traditional room-rental arrangement no longer exist... .
While residents still share common spaces and housing, the aspects of the community that originally attracted me to the property have been substantially reduced or removed. Had the property been operating in its current form when I was searching for housing, I would not have chosen to live here.
The removal of these features also causes me to have serious safety concerns. Previously, we were able to meet and get a sense of who potential roommates were before they moved onto the property. With the removal of the Meet and Greet process, we have no clue who might be moving into our houses and have uncontrolled access to the entire property and our common spaces. I do not feel safe here knowing complete strangers will be having unlimited aspect to our shared space.
My experience has also been that property management is unprofessional, hostile towards tenants, and has failed to adequately address past and ongoing concerns related to safety, resident trust in management, and changes to the property that change it from a true coliving community to a standard room rental operation.
If you want a comfortable environment, responsive and caring property management that takes accountability and helps residents, and a safe space to be in, I highly suggest looking elsewhere as my personal experience here has been very unpleasant.
