Sweetwater Apartments

This apartment complex power washed an active barn swallow nest directly off the building, killing the baby birds inside. Barn swallows are protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, yet management apparently decided that power washing a nest with live hatchlings in it was an acceptable way to deal with the problem.

There is no excuse for this. Property maintenance does not require killing federally protected wildlife, especially helpless baby birds in an active nest. Honest review from an honest person. Do not live here. Great location, but that is where the positives end. Office staff are very unapproachable and never seem to be in a good mood. There were constant mistakes made by the staff including accusations of leaving items by the dumpster and a late rent payment notice despite payment (this notice threatened eviction). The worst experience came upon move out, where we were charged an excessive amount for “damages”. We were charged for nail holes,... despite the lease contract stating nail holes were allowed. A carpet replacement charge was also included, yet there were no stains or damage beyond normal wear. On top of this, we were charged for a dirty air filter, which is a normal maintenance item performed on a quarterly basis by apartment maintenance. The staff did not allow for any rebuttal for these charges, and corporate never responded to our messages. It's sad because Sweetwater has the potential to be so nice! I think the women in office don't have much control over anything, and they don't seem to be able to make decisions. Instead of being honest about that they will constantly lie about why things are broken or are not kept up. Look at the review stating the pool was closed by DHEC; the pool was closed TWICE by DHEC and management stated it was closed for "maintenance". They seem to not realize that residents saw the closure notice. We... are aware of the reasons listed for closure. The lying makes everything so much worse.

Elevators are constantly broken, multiple cars have been stolen from the lot. Cars are broken into almost nightly. There is no security and there is absolutely no move to fix it.

Apartment buildings are all having plumbing problems that will only get worse, and nothing is being done about it.

Management is a JOKE! Leasing office are rude and unprofessional! Maintenace don't do their job. Grounds are disgusting with dog poop everywhere. Broken roof on dock. Pool chairs are hidden under a building after a hurricane. Pool is nasty with broken tiles. Grill area is horrible with no propane for the grills. Mold in apartments. Fish hooks, rusty nails, broken glass on the grounds. Dogs aren't on leashes. Trash everywhere including the trash dump area. Too much rent for poor quality!

Living here is awful. The management company that took over a few years ago is the worst. My family got super sick after being in the pool and then the pool was closed by the SC Department of Health citing zero chemicals. They do not maintain the property at all. And the onsite management staff are very rude and don't care when you raise concerns. There are so many other nice options near here.
