Crime ridden with absent management - AVOID AT ALL COSTS
DO NOT RENT HERE. This place is a straight-up nightmare and I regret every single day I signed the lease at The Josephine Apartments.
Theft and crime have been rampant since I moved in last July. Package theft, cars broken into in the garage. Even bikes being stolen from a secured bike storage room by someone who had a key to the door! It’s not “bad luck” anymore — it’s a pattern.
The complex is unsafe, outside lighting is terrible, cameras are inadequate, and security is nonexistent.
I’ve... emailed, called, and even stopped by the office innumerable times about the thefts and crime which had affected me and other tenants to no avail. Management’s response? Radio silence. After my most recent theft at the property ($1200 Specialized bike from our “secure” bike room it’s been days without any response to my emails to management. No updates, no repairs, no extra patrols, no acknowledgment whatsoever. I have been completely ignored while my safety and my property are at risk.
I could go on and on about the nickel-and-diming, the key fob isn’t even included with your lease — it’s an extra $50. I’ve never stayed anywhere where you must pay for the key just to get into your own building.
Then there’s the internet, which you’re forced to pay The Josephine directly (hosted by Spectrum) at a ridiculous $80/month. If you go straight to Spectrum’s website, they charge only $70 for 1000 Mbps download speeds. But here? I consistently get only 275–290 Mbps — which is more in line with Spectrum’s $40/month 500 Mbps plan or even their cheap $30/month 100 Mbps plan. So the internet is significantly overcharged and underperforms. Another hidden money grab.
This isn’t “minor maintenance issues.” This is a complete failure to provide basic security, basic honesty in marketing, and basic value for the rent we’re paying.
I feel like I’m paying premium prices to live in a free-for-all where criminals have free rein, management is absent, and every extra service is marked up or misrepresented.
If you value your belongings, your safety, your money, or even a little peace of mind, run the other way. Save yourself the headache, the stolen property, the frustration, and the constant feeling of being ripped off. I’m counting down the days until I can get out. Worst apartment experience I’ve ever had. Stay far away from The Josephine.
