After 11 months at The Merrick, I can write my honest review.
When you enter the building via car port, it is extremely slow due to someone from the area trying to break in, management has done nothing to fix this. Though be mindful, this is a gated car port and spots are only $125/month, great pricing for what I’ve seen around Portland. Although it has not stopped people from continuing to come in behind cars pulling in and messing with your car.
After you are successful in entering the... carport as you slowly approach whether to go left or right, proceeded with caution due to no mirrors, indicating if someone is exiting the elevator or not this issue has been brought to management attention in folks from the community asking for this to be added.
Throughout the week, the sanitation staff does a very good job of keeping the building clean. Outside of the working hours, the community themselves does a poor job of keeping up with this. Examples include folks not cleaning up after their animals in the lobby, elevators and the second floor patio that we all share.
Might I add, I think it would be very nice if the management would also add trash cans to the lobby and the carport areas.
This is a building is one that is ALL WOOD flooring. Because of this you will hear your neighbors at all given times. You will hear them walk. You will hear them have sex (if they’re the loud type). You will hear them laugh.
Because there’s a lot of noise. Walk light on your toes and warn your guests when they come over to hangout. Same issue with smoking, you are going to smell it, no matter how much you complain and ask the front office to take care of it. There is always going to be a neighbor that is smoking which is beyond annoying and sucks, but staff won’t actually help do anything.
If you are someone who does not mind this, then I recommend living here!
The gym is decent and never closes which I appreciate. I also enjoy that it is on the same floor as the patio so I can take equipment out there as I like if the gym is full and to just get fresh air and feel safe.
The Director was ZERO help in navigating difficult situations with residents to provide a feeling of safety in calling The Merrick our home.
Bottom line, if you’re looking for a place to call home - the Merrick ain’t it. Do yourself the biggest favor and keep apartment hunting.
