Do Not Lease Here
I’ve put a lot of thought into this review, and I hope if you’re reading this, you’ll take it to heart. I lived at Octave for two years and my experience was horrible. I’m not sure where to begin, so I’ll start with the worst.
I lived on the top floor, and for weeks on end, there was roofing construction that would begin promptly at 6AM or earlier, weekends included. Sometimes they would start as early as 5AM. This construction was so loud and so intense that it literally shook dust down from... the roof into our unit—pictures fell off the walls in my unit. The office was no help. They insisted that construction did not start until 8AM or later every day, but I can personally tell you that this was not the case. This is an example of the lack of respect for residents and lack of communication that Octave unfortunately has.
They also recently removed the option for rent to be split, meaning that one person has to pay the entire payment. As you can imagine, this was difficult with a roommate, and should be noted if you are planning to move in with someone else.
Beyond this, please know that if you order anything to your apartment (packages, etc.), there is about a 50/50 chance you will actually receive it. They have a locker system, but most of the time, packages will be left unaccounted for in the hallway due to overflow. If your package goes into the locker, you will get it. Otherwise, it’s basically lost and they will not reimburse you. I struggled so much with this that I began sending my packages to the leasing office itself rather than the address of the apartment building.
Another concern was safety. Doors, which you have to scan into, routinely had one of two problems: they were broken and were open to the public, or they were broken and residents could not enter the building. Moreover, garage access doors were routinely propped open. In an area right off of Wedgewood, safety is definitely paramount.
Lastly, they will nickel and dime you for everything you’re worth upon move out. Do not expect to receive your deposit back; in fact, expect extra charges on top of your deposit, no matter how clean of a state you left your unit in. I spent two days deep cleaning the unit but it doesn’t matter, and they don’t care. On top of the fees, I was sent to a debt collectors even though I paid all of the charges, and I received calls for weeks on end before it was resolved and they confirmed I had paid.
