Mice, Car Break-Ins, Unhelpful Leasing

I lived at Harlow River Oaks for about a year. While it seemed like a nice place at first, I experienced a number of serious problems.

TLDR: The parking garage gate was constantly stuck open, leading to repeated break-ins. My own car was broken into, and I regularly saw others with missing wheels. On top of that, there was a mouse infestation in my unit. The leasing office refused to reimburse overnight pest control fees or acknowledge the extent of the issue.

The garage gate was broken almost...
the entire time I lived there. This made it easy for thieves to enter and steal. My car was broken into, my horn clipped, and the keyhole damaged. When I reported it to the leasing office, they refused to do anything and wouldn’t even apologize, citing liability concerns. This was especially disappointing given they’d emphasized safety when I moved in. For months, tires were stolen weekly. One resident’s car sat on blocks after having custom rims stolen.

Then came the mice. In April, I saw a mouse and called emergency maintenance. They couldn’t help, and pest control wouldn’t be in until Friday. Not wanting to spend the night with mice, I paid $300 for a private exterminator who caught a mouse and found and sealed about 10 holes. In total, six mice were in my unit. The complex refused to reimburse me.

I abandoned my unit a month early and slept on the floor in a new place until I could sanitize my things. Again, no reimbursement. I saw mice in the hallway, and my neighbor did too. When I told the leasing office, they acted like it was the first they'd heard of it, even though the pest control worker admitted they’d had many mouse complaints. The staff just shrugged.

Bottom line: you’ll likely pay out of pocket for damage and infestations caused by their negligence. I’d look elsewhere.

Would never recommend it

I lived in this apartment complex for a year, and unfortunately, my experience was far from ideal. During my time there, several cars had tires, Catalytic converters stolen a cars that were broken into, raising serious concerns about security. On top of that, there was a persistent roach infestation that made daily living uncomfortable, despite multiple complaints.
To make matters worse, it's been over 35 days since l moved out, and I still haven't received my security deposit—or even an...
estimate of when I will.
Management initially told me I wouldn't be charged for anything, so the delay is both confusing and frustrating.
While the location was convenient, the overall experience left a lot to be desired. I wouldn't recommend this complex unless significant improvements are made in security, pest control, and communication.

Bad Management and customer care

I am beyond disappointed with the way my move-in was handled by this property management company. After applying for a specific unit, paying the application fee, administration fee, and deposit, and having a confirmed move-in date, I was informed just before my move-in that the unit was unavailable due to an "unforeseen complication." The lack of advance notice was already frustrating, but what followed made the situation worse.

The alternatives offered were completely inadequate. One was a...
different floor plan that didn’t match the unit I had originally applied for, and the other was another unit identical to the one I applied for, but not available until the end of January. These options did not meet my needs in any way. When I refused to accept them, I was told I would only receive a refund of the deposit. Despite having paid the application fee and administration fee in addition to the deposit, they refused to refund the other fees simply because I did not accept their subpar alternatives.

This situation is absurd and illogical. Why should I bear the financial burden for inefficiencies in their process and system? The lack of communication, transparency, and fairness is appalling. To make matters worse, the manager was rude and lacked any understanding or empathy for the position they had put me in. Instead of working to find a reasonable solution, I was met with a dismissive attitude.

Based on my experience, I strongly do not recommend renting an apartment from this property management company. Their unprofessionalism, lack of customer care, and poor handling of this situation make it clear that they do not prioritize their tenants or take responsibility for their mistakes.

BEWARE OF ROACHES

This apartment deserves 0 stars. They seriously have a roach problem and the property manager, Joanna, doesn’t care. I’ve had pest control come in so many times that I don’t think that even healthy for me. Their lame excuse is “it’s the summer.” No, I have lived in other properties in Houston and trust me they have a problem. Besides that, your call will get broken into and/or towed. Poor/LAZY management.

Stay away!!!

I would give this place 0 stars and never recommend anyone to live here. A lot of my packages were stolen. This community is experiencing thefts, break-ins, drug dealing, weed smoking... criminal activities on a regular basis.
